Discipling God's People from Vision to Involvement

“I have gotten to see the full circle of my gifts to your ministry in this trip,”  Stephen said.  “I have seen your teaching turn into a mission movement for Christ.”

Stephen has been a good friend of the Gateway Center for many years.  He took the Perspectives course in 2001 and helped with the first Living Out God’s Destiny Course in 2002.  He has been a Gateway Level donor since 2007.

Last year he came to the Gateway Prayer Conference.  Besides learning about the same strategic prayer we taught to the pastors in Haiti, the Lord stirred in him the desire to go with us to Haiti.

Last month he accompanied Martha to Haiti (Ken was already there).  He came as the GCWM on-site intercessor and photographer.  He spent much of his time praying and taping the conference, but very much enjoyed getting to know the pastors and fellowshipping with them.

Stephen’s first trip through the streets of Haiti was in the open back of the large truck we travel in there.  He got to experience fully the heat, smells, dust and smoke as we traveled the hour to the OMS Guest House through rubble, tents, and makeshift markets.

It is our practice to have a team meeting every evening before we retire.  Stephen would always have a word for us.  Because his job was to “watch and pray,”  he had great insights.  We would take what he had for us and use them.  He also got to tell the pastors directly what he was sensing from the Lord.

What Stephen experienced wasn’t translated easily into pictures.  He saw men and women on fire for the revival of Haiti and ready to take the Gospel of Christ to the world.    He saw pastors encouraging each other in the Lord and having great excitement about doing this together.  He did not hear mention of their hardships or bad conditions.  They never grumbled about living conditions, although they were extremely happy to have bathroom facilities with showers (cold) and they ate heartily.

As Stephen rode back through the streets of Port Au Prince he saw with spiritual eyes the “New Haiti” the pastors talked about.  He could pray with us:  Thy Kingdom Come and Thy will be done here in Haiti.

Stephen is looking forward to taking pictures of the New Haiti.  The pastors of Haiti have a five year plan and have asked the Lord that we “would see it with our natural eyes.”
