Building Mission Training Materials with an African Context And Evaluating Opportunities for Local Empowerment.

GCWM-Equipping Emerging Leaders since 2005

Nigerian Pastors Conference

Utilizing International Mission Training materials, GCWM partnered with Mission Africa International to equip 200 pastors and student leaders during their Emerging Leaders Conference in Ilorin, Nigeria during August of 2005. God called twenty-two of the participants to volunteer for full-time mission service in the Muslim areas of Nigeria and the Sub-Sahara.

The Challenge:

Feedback from focus groups highlighted the desire for a more African style of training material and some expressed a desire to help with revision of the material, but communication and financial difficulties have hindered progress.

Economic hardships are severe, especially in Muslim areas. Muslims have actually paid people to convert by offering jobs and housing. Even some weak Christians have fallen prey to these tactics.

Creative locally developed enterprises are needed to empower Christians in areas where these hardships exist.

The Plan:

• Work with Nigerian pastors and educational leaders to evaluate the International Training Materials and determine how and where they could be modified to fit the needs of Christians in the field.
• GCWM will utilize Business to Business models and tools developed through the Rwandan and Haitian programs to assist local Christians to evaluate their existing resources and determine which micro and small to medium enterprise opportunities would best fit their environment.
• Connect with the Nigerian Business community and endeavor to utilize Nigerian resources to conduct training. Bring together Nigerian and outside resources to start enterprise solutions.

Taste & See:

What gifts and talents do you have? Pray about how they might be used in Nigeria and consider joining the GCWM efforts to make a difference.
